Summary of Governor’s Experience

Gonul Daniels

Chair

Gonul has been a governor at Ashmole Academy since 2003, initially elected as a parent governor then a community governor.  She was Chair of Governors of Ashmole Academy as a Single Academy Trust and is now a Board Trustee in the newly created Multi Academy Trust.
Gonul is a community campaigner, an advocate for community issues, and has volunteered in her community for over a decade.
Gonul has a successful career in Technical Engineering within parliamentary, government, commercial and corporate sectors.  She has also run her own Technology business and has embarked on a digital start up.
Gonul is interested in politics and was a Parliamentary Candidate in the last General Election.

Allison Walling

Vice Chair

Allison became a parent governor in 2011 and was re-elected again in 2016.

For the past 30 years Allison has managed and is now the Managing Director/Owner of a very successful printing company in Mayfair.  She works with all types of businesses within the local area and their overseas offices.  She has an expertise in all aspects of print and design.

Allison is currently the Chair of the Curriculum Committee and ensures the quality and delivery of education to our students is scrutinised, challenged and maintained.  She leads an E-safety campaign to develop awareness for our year 7’s and 8’s.

Allison is married with two children, a daughter in Year 10 and a son in the Sixth Form of Ashmole Academy.  Allison is a huge football fan and sponsors her son’s football team; she cheers him on a Sunday and watches Arsenal at home on a Saturday.  Her other interests are cookery and organising events.

Emanuele Vadilonga

Trustee

Emanuele was elected as parent governor in early 2015 before being elected to the MAT Trust Board in December 2015.  He is married and has a son and a daughter who both attend Ashmole Academy and his engagement as a governor was driven by his desire to return something to the school and to the wider community.

Emanuele has spent all of his career in the telecommunications industry where he has held regulatory roles with a number of communications providers.  He is currently the Director of Regulatory Affairs for Europe for BT Global Services, the line of business of BT plc that delivers communications and networked IT services globally to corporate and public sector organisations.  In his role he holds operational responsibility for regulatory, compliance and competition law activities for the BT Global Services operations across continental Europe.  He joined BT Global Services in 2004 having, among others, previously worked for mobile operator Orange and the Cable & Wireless Group in the UK.

Ron

Hawksby

Local Governing Committee

Ron is the longest serving member of the Governing Body and brings a wealth of experience having served on a number of committees including staff appointments.  A previous Vice Chair of governors Ron currently sits on the Pupil Discipline Committee.

Nicola Stapleton

Local Governing Committee Governor

Nicola has been a governor at Ashmole since December 2014.

She is a mother of two young children, one at primary school, and has lived in Southgate since early 2010.

Nicola has worked as a journalist for 19 years, on national newspapers for 16 years, and has specialised in education for nine years.

She has interviewed senior politicians and policy makers, attended numerous teaching union conferences, written widely on exam results and has close contacts with Head Teachers, advisers, social mobility charities and experts in the education world.

Before writing about education, Nicola was a general news reporter, covering issues including crime, terrorism and social trends.

Nicola has a keen interest in education, literature, theatre and classical music.

Joanna Tambouridou

Local Governing Committee Governor

Joanna has been a governor at Ashmole Academy for about 20 years, having previously been a member of the Admissions Appeal Panel for the school.  She has been a member of the Pupil Discipline Panel for her whole time at Ashmole and until a year ago a member of the Curriculum Committee.  She now sits on the Estates Committee.

For the whole of her working life she worked as a secretary and then as a P.A. in private companies at Director level, and for the last ten years at the HPA (now Public Health England), which is part of the NHS.  From 2007 to 2014 she served as a Barnet Councillor in the East Barnet Ward, and is currently a governor at two senior schools, as well as on the management board of two local charities.

Marino Onissi Parent Governor

I have been a parent governor since January 2015 and currently sit on the Curriculum and Standards Committee.

For the last 20 years my career has been in Music Education & Performance and I have worked in two private girl’s schools, as well as playing concerts on a regular basis.  My vision is to help Ashmole Academy achieve its highest potential in music.

I am married with two sons (one in Year 8 at Ashmole Academy and the other in Reception at Brunswick Park School) and in my spare time I indulge in two of my passions, Modern Art and following Arsenal Football Team.

Madeleine Betton

Parent Governor

Madeleine took up her first governor position in 2010 in her daughter’s primary school in Enfield and was elected as a parent governor at Ashmole Academy in December 2014, where she serves as a governor on both the secondary and primary school committees.

Her Chartered Accountant’s career has progressed through positions of increasing responsibility, ultimately as Finance Director of a company in the hospitality and property development sector, before taking a career break.

She has three children, the eldest now attends Ashmole Academy and Madeleine is immensely pleased with her daughter’s achievements and the opportunities the school offers.

Sue Willmott Staff Governor

Sue was elected as Staff Governor in 2015.  Sue joined Ashmole Academy in January 2007 as Head of Administration and is now Business Manager.  She actively promotes the schools facilities to the local community to ensure that the school is as well used in the evenings and at weekends as it is during the school day.

Sue is part of the Finance & General Purpose committee & in her role as Business Manager sits on the Primary Transition Committee.

Sue has one son, now 23 years old, who attended Ashmole Academy. In her spare time Sue shares his passion for golf although only as a spectator & is a keen supporter of Liverpool FC, sadly only from her armchair.  She also enjoys the theatre, concerts and food.
