Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is it possible for External Year 11 students to apply to Ashmole Academy Sixth Form?
A: Yes. The Academy accepts applications from external candidates, currently in Year 11 at another school.

Q: How do you submit an online application to the Sixth Form for Ashmole Academy?
Application to Sixth Form at Ashmole Academy opens on Thursday 7th November 2024, 6:00pm via a link on the Academy website. Ashmole Academy/Sixth form/Join Us/Apply
The link will take you to the application portal Applicaa where external candidates are required to register and submit their application on-line. Internal candidates have been pre-registered by the Academy.

Q: Do Internal Year 11 Ashmole Academy students transfer automatically to Sixth Form?
A: No. Internal and external Year 11 students must both submit a Sixth Form application by the closing date of Friday 31st January 2025.

Q: Is there a minimum entry criteria for entry to Ashmole Academy Sixth Form?
Yes. The GCSE entry criteria is outlined on page 8 & 9 of the Sixth Form Prospectus 2025 and set out in the Ashmole Academy Admission Policy 2025.  Application is based on minimum predicted GCSE grades and subsequent final GCSE grades in August 2025.

Q: How do I provide my predicted GCSE grades to Ashmole Academy?
External students are required to input their GCSE predicted grades on the online application form within the section of the form entitled ‘Education’.  Once you submit your application form, the named referee will receive a notification by email with a request to verify or adjust your predicted grades. You will be informed with an automated email when the referee has returned the reference of predicted grades to Ashmole Academy.  There is no character reference obtained from your current school, only a reference of predicted GCSE grades.

Q: The application form will only let me choose 3 A-level subjects, but I would like to study a 4th A-level subject - how can I request this?
Requests to study a 4th A-level should be sent by email in the first instance to sixthformadmissions@ashmoleacademy.org.  If you enrol at the Academy in August, you should pursue your request to study a 4th subject at your in-person enrolment interview in August 2025.

Q: I completed the online application form - how do I know my application has been received?
Once your application form is submitted back to the Academy, an automated email confirming receipt of your application form will be sent to the email address used for registration.  Any future communication from the Academy will also be copied to the parent/carer contacts indicated.

You can also check the status of your application through your profile page on the on-line application account which updates automatically.

Q: Will Ashmole Academy chase my school for my academic reference?
A: No.  It is the responsibility of the student or parent to ensure the academic reference is completed by the current school of the candidate.  Once the reference is received by the Academy, an automated email confirming receipt will be sent to the applicant.

The status of the application can be checked via the on-line account.

Q: I missed the closing date for Sixth Form application. Can I still apply?
If you registered before the closing date of 31st January 2025, Ashmole Academy will still accept late submitted applications for a ‘short time’ depending on how many submitted applications have been received.  The Academy may potentially receive application again in August on Enrolment Day if the school is not oversubscribed with candidates who are in receipt of a conditional offer. Late applications will not be considered until after those with a conditional offer.

Q: My application is complete, but I would like to change my A-level subject choices.
A: First you need to check if you will potentially meet the minimum grade criteria for the subject you wish to change to. Subject changes will be received by email only for a short time after you have received a response to your application in the spring term. Beyond the spring term, you will need to wait until enrolment day when any course change should be indicated on your enrolment form.

Q: When will a response to the application be received?
You will receive a ‘response email’ by email by March 2025.

Q: Can I request a prospectus from the school?
The Sixth Form Prospectus 2025 will be available on the Sixth Form pages of the school website alongside a Subject Information Booklet 2025.  A paper copy of the prospectus will be made available to those who attend the Sixth Form Open Evening.
