At GCSE, students will study either the combined or separate Biology course. All the topics below will be covered for both courses.
GCSE and A Level courses follow the AQA specification.
The Biology Curriculum at Ashmole Academy is underpinned by five subject specific curriculum pillars:
-
Pillar 1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of biological structures, functions and processes.
-
Pillar 2: Develop knowledge and application of scientific ideas and relate them to the wider world.
-
Pillar 3: Demonstrate the ability to use key apparatus safely and skilfully, and record accurate data.
-
Pillar 4: To critically interpret, analyse and evaluate data/research and justify methods.
-
Pillar 5: Communicate scientific ideas using key terminology in written and verbal answers.
These pillars make explicit the purpose of Biological concepts, including the knowledge and skills that are developed over time.
The pillars are referred to in every lesson, enabling students to link new learning to what they already know and can do.
