CTEC Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity

Course Content

The OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity provides students with a broad understanding of the sport and physical activity sector through a combination of externally examined and internally assessed units.

Students will study a range of topics including:

  • Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Activity

  • Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership

  • Sports Organisation and Development

  • Working Safely in Sport, Exercise, Health and Leisure

  • Performance Analysis in Sport and Exercise

  • Organisation of Sports Events

  • Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation

  • Sports Nutrition

  • Sport and Exercise Psychology

  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise

  • Practical Skills in Sport and Physical Activities

Students will also complete additional units that develop their knowledge and practical understanding of the wider sport and physical activity industry.

Teaching Styles

Students will experience a combination of practical and classroom-based learning, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to real sporting situations.

Lessons include practical activities, sports coaching, fitness testing, event organisation, independent research, presentations, case studies and written assignments. Students will also have opportunities to work with others and develop their communication, leadership and organisational skills.

Assessment is through a combination of externally examined units and internally assessed coursework, providing students with different opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and practical skills.

The course provides an excellent pathway into higher education, apprenticeships or employment within the sport and physical activity sector.
