Medsoc Programme

Senior MedSoc Programme
Medsoc is an exciting medical society which supports everybody interested in the field of medicine, dentistry or veterinary society, or anyone simply interested in the world of health care and its topical discussions.

For our 6th form students we aim to provide a community of support. During weekly after school sessions, students are taken through application processes, admissions exams, and are motivated to find work experience and volunteering opportunities. The society benefits from guest speakers who instigate detailed debates and fill students in on what to expect in their professions. This helps to ease pressures and increase confidence for our students’ applications to university.

Senior MedSoc is aimed at Year 12 and Year 13, where from Year 12 we encourage and support students in how to find work experience and volunteering, debate and help with UCAS (university) applications. This includes medical ethics; choosing the right university; writing personal statements; aptitude test preparation (UKCAT and BMAT); interview preparation – panel and MMI.

Recent successes
We are proud of the achievements of our students in their applications to university. Some of our recent successes include:

Lily studying Medicine at Birmingham University
Lily shone as a student at Ashmole since Year 7, demonstrating hard work and determination. Her work ethic has been second to none and she flourished in sixth form, impressing at interview. She ran debates at our regular MedSoc sessions, engaging the other students in hot topics in medicine.

Lubnaa studying Medicine at UCL
Lubnaa had a huge role in the Medical Society whilst in the 6th form - as President of the Society she helped to organise the sessions and run regular debates. She also provided great support to students in the lower 6th, mentoring them in their decision to apply for medicine and wider healthcare careers. On top of this Lubnaa got A*A*A* in her A levels.

Anastasia studying Dentistry at Kings College London
Anastasia joined Ashmole in the 6th form, impressing her teachers from the start. Always keen to learn more about dentistry - in dental practices and hospital settings, she demonstrated her positive attitude and excellent work ethic to the universities, securing her place at Kings College London.

Hear from our students:
“I have found it to be a great support in my goal of applying to medical school. Opportunities made available by Medsoc help us develop personal skills and attributes and broaden our understanding of medicine and its possible careers, eventually aiding in writing strong applications.” Zoe, Year 12
