Oxplore

On Tuesday 15th May, a group of 25 G and T students from Year 8 took part in a live streamed debate. Oxplore is an innovative digital outreach portal from the University of Oxford. As the ‘Home of Big Questions’ it aims to engage those from 11 to 18 years with debates and ideas that go beyond what is covered in the classroom. The group watched a group of academics from different fields discuss a range of ideas in response to the question, ‘Could we live on another planet?’ Students were invited to submit their own questions throughout the live event and the group of year 8 students won a set of books for the library for their excellent participation. Furthermore, congratulations to Archie Beach from 8J2 who won a book token for submitting the best question overall which was, ‘Do we have enough fuel left in our world to travel anywhere outside our solar system?’. The Oxplore organisers liked the way that it raises issues of sustainability, technology and resources.
