Ashmole Win Y10 League Final and Complete Double
On the evening of Monday 30th April in Finchley, Christ’s College and Ashmole Academy met at a cold and windswept Harry Abrahams Stadium for the Barnet Year 10 Boys League Final. Both teams competed well in a hard-fought game with Ashmole dominating possession and creating the majority of the goal scoring opportunities, despite not managing to convert any of them. With both defences combating the goal-scoring threat of their opposing attacks, full-time was reached with the scores level at 0-0. The game entered extra-time with both sets of players becoming increasingly tired and it required an instance of extraordinary skill to separate them. This moment occurred shortly before the extra-time interval when Harry Leverington drove through the Christ’s College defence and hit the most sublime, unstoppable, angled shot past their goalkeeper into the bottom corner of the net. The Ashmole team then dug deep and defended resolutely to hold on for a well-deserved victory.
In lifting this trophy Ashmole Academy completed the double of winning both the Barnet Year 10 Boys League and Cup, a rare feat in the history of Ashmole and amongst Barnet schools generally.
