University Events
Universities host a range of events aimed at prospective undergraduates. Not all institutions are listed here so students may wish to do their own research too.
Queen Mary University, London has free taster days to enable students to find out more about a specific course or discipline, for example ‘Alternatives to medicine’ and ‘Options for Women in Engineering’. Check requirements as some taster days are for Year 12s, some for Year 13s, and some for both years, and get quickly booked. https://www.qmul.ac.uk/teachers/upcoming-events/taster-courses/
The University of Sheffield is running a range of taster days for Year 12 students, starting this December through to February next year. Attendance to their taster days is free. Students will need to register interest in each taster day in the first place. UCL puts on a range of visits, events and programmes for students from Years 5 to 13, who are under-represented in higher education. UCL also seeks to raise the aspirations of students from groups who are under-represented at university. Eligibility criteria are strict.

UCL’s Year 12 Summer Challenge is a six-week programme (one evening a week) that aims to give high-achieving Year 12 students the chance to experience what it is like to study their chosen subject at university through, for example, seminars, discussions, and a written essay for which students receive feedback. Students can choose from STEM and humanities subjects, which are taught by UCL academics and PhD students. Eligibility criteria apply.
