What are you doing now?
I currently work for a large charity organisation supporting young people with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Downs Syndrome, developing their employability skills and securing a job, apprenticeship or further education. Since graduating in 2014, I got involved with a lot of work in the charity sector whilst volunteering both abroad and in the UK and getting involved in a number of social action campaigns. On the side of this, I still have a passion for the world of design, working on graphic design and art projects. I hope to combine my love for design and social action campaigns together in the future.
What did/do you get involved with at university?
I danced for The University of Nottingham for their annual cultural show. I also choreographed the year after. I was involved in The Architecture Society; you learn a lot from your peers and we would have group workshops to develop skills in AutoCad, Photoshop and various other design software (great for socials too!).
What did you find most valuable about your experiences at Ashmole Academy? What skills did it help you to develop?
Ashmole had a great variety of extra-curricular activities – I was part of the Orchestra, Flute group and took part in the school show every year. The opportunity to take part in different activities definitely developed my confidence in meeting and talking to new people as well as juggling multiple projects at once. Since leaving Ashmole, I have always looked for extra-curricular activities to take part in, not only throughout university, but also during my working life too.

What top tips would you give to other students wishing to follow a similar career to yours?
Keep on learning and meeting new people! Get involved with leadership programmes and societies as you learn so much from other people, which will allow you to look at things in new and different ways. I taught myself a lot of graphic design software, so keep teaching yourself new things to develop in a field you’re interested in.
How did Ashmole help you reach your goals?
Teachers at Ashmole were always available to help. I would be popping my head around a classroom to ask for help with that sticky maths question or making sure my graphics coursework was as perfect as I could get it after school. Without this extra support, I wouldn’t have achieved the grades that I did.
Anything else you would like to tell us about yourself.
It took me a long two years to finally build up my design portfolio, which was a great achievement to publish – if anyone is looking for advice in this area I’m more than happy to help.
